Practical INFO
Everything you need to know to enjoy LUCIA.
Are you on your way to Florence? Are you coming to LUCIA?
Here is a memo for you, to better enjoy the festival and the city.
Lucia 2024 has three venues: Villa Romana, Cinema Astra and CANGO Cantieri Culturali Goldonetta.
HOW TO GET THERE
Villa Romana is the venue for YASS! Lab (Thursday 12 – Friday 13) and the address is Via Senese 68.
To reach it from the Firenze S.M.N. railway station, we recommend buses 36 – 37 – 39 (direction ‘Tavarnuzze Primo Maggio’)
The Cinema Astra is where the festival officially opens on the evening of Thursday 12.
The cinema is located in Piazza Cesare Beccaria and to reach it from the Firenze S.M.N. railway station it takes about 30 minutes on foot / 15 by bus (line 14) / 10 by bicycle.
The main venue of Lucia 2024 is CANGO Cantieri Culturali Goldonetta, in Via Santa Maria 25.
The venue is in the Oltrarno district.
We recommend walking: from the Firenze S.M.N railway station it is about a 20-minute walk. By bus, also from the station, take the 11 and the C4. Taxis are available by calling 055 4242 or 055 4390. For those arriving by car, the nearest car park is the Oltrarno car park (for a fee), with entrance from Piazza della Calza. Just outside Porta Romana is a small car park (for a fee) and along Viale Petrarca, there are parking spaces painted blue (i.e. you pay!). For those who prefer cycling, Florence is well served by ridemovi, just download the APP: plenty of bikes, including electric ones, are available.
ONCE IN CANGO…
Founded in 2003, CANGO is a centre for research, transmission, residencies and vision dedicated to the performing arts. We are delighted that LUCIA is included in La Democrazia del Corpo, the winter program of Compagnia Virgilio Sieni.
The festival venue is accessible to people with reduced mobility and wheelchair users.
All the events of LUCIA festival are free (until places are available)
but few things do need a reservation…
SANTINI, BAA! Bambini all’ascolto and the guided tours at the National Library are events you are asked to register for.
SANTINI. A hand when you want it
This is the community event we are waiting for with the greatest curiosity. We don’t really like elevator pitches – they make us anxious – and we believe in the wisdom of the group, in sharing with one’s peers. If you don’t know how to turn a story around, if you have a problem structuring a new series, if you have a topic but few clear ideas, if you have everything but lack cold, hard cash, SANTINI is your chance to talk to and with a pantheon of colleagues who have probably walked through the same swamps.
Book your seat, come and tell us your struggles and find support within the community.
OUT OF THE DREAM WOODS
The gymnastics for the ears conducted by artist Maria Pecchioli does not require any reservation.
Comfortable clothes (and if you like, a blanket or a pillow) are highly recommended.
IN TOWN
Remember that LUCIA falls right in the middle of the feast of the Immaculate Conception. Pre-Christmas hordes are expected and we suggest, unless you like crowds, gravitating away from the more commercial streets downtown [with the exception of Via dei Fossi, where we recommend our favorite bookshop: Todo Modo!] In Oltrarno, between Piazza Santo Spirito, Piazza del Carmine and the San Frediano area, there are bars and restaurants where you can take a break, eat, meet. But remember: if you haven’t already done so, at least make a reservation for dinner!
Last but not least we remind you that Lucia has no entry fee
but to organise all of this is not free…
So, if you love it, if you like what you hear and what you see, you can support us and help us make it sustainable by making a donation or by entering the Radio Papesse family and subscribing as a member!
