LISTENING

Shadow Work

Shadow Work was made as a mode of healing and transformation. It is about the importance of darkness and an invitation to observe what grows in shadows.
This piece was first made as a submission to the KCRW Radio Race 2019, and then published on Short Cuts from Falling Tree Productions.  Special thanks to Margo Mejia, Eleanor McDowall, and the moon.

Ariel (Ari) Mejia (she/her) is an audio artist and producer, educator, oral historian and Chicago native. She co-created, hosted and producedUnboxing Queer History, a podcast from Gerber/Hart Library and Archives. She currently is the community and audio storytelling producer at Vocalo Radio in Chicago, and runs their audio storytelling workshop.

Ari has been featured on multiple episodes of Short Cuts, The Heart, Change Agents, BirdNote, The Dig, and independently developed and hosted Mirror and a Flashlight, a podcast from the Chicago Women’s Health Center. When she’s not making radio Ari is biking, playing music, baking, and… dabbling in candle magic.
