The impact of audio on language and reading in children

Children have the right to access and enjoy audio, in order to learn a language and find their way to reading, but they cannot do this alone: this is where teachers and podcast producers come into play. With Tjeerd van den Elsen, you will discover how important good audio productions are for children: how they help build up their vocabulary, reading, language development and creativity. You will also discover how to make listening with children an interactive and shared experience, even during the production phase of a podcast.

Tjeerd van den Elsen is a specialist in audio education at Ears Up, and in 2017 he became Teacher of the Year in the Netherlands for primary education. In 2020 he won the IPON award for educational innovation in the Netherlands, thanks to his vision and knowledge of audio and how to bring it into the classroom. He is also founder of Kinderpodcasts.nl and is an expert on the impact of audio on language acquisition in children. Van den Elsen is a podcast producer and trainer for teachers, educators and other podcast producers: he helps them update their skills, produce podcasts for children and involve children in their productions.
