L’arco di Chiara
Radioimmaginaria is the teenagers’ radio station, born in 2012 in Castel Guelfo di Bologna, where “no adult gets involved in the content”, and the speakers are all aged between 11 and 17. From an extra-curricular project to webradio, from the Sanremo Festival to the Fridays for Future demonstrations with Greta Thunberg, Radioimmaginaria has grown and now mobilises a community of around 300 youth throughout Italy and Europe.
In December 2021, they received the Italian plaque of honour as Alfieri della Repubblica for their commitment during the first lockdown, when they invented the project called “RAD”, a remote radio where each speaker – connected from home – could continue their broadcasts without ever stopping.
In June 2022, Rai Play Sound released L’Arco di Chiara, a podcast Radioimmaginaria produced to tell the story of Chiara Gualzetti, who was killed at the age of 15 by a boy her age, in the province of Bologna in 2021.
On 12 April 2022, the trial started at the Juvenile Court of Emilia-Romagna. The defendant asked for an abbreviated trial, conditional on a new psychiatric report which, however, confirmed that the boy was fit to plead. On 26 July 2022, he was sentenced to 16 years and 4 months.
“Our aim is not to look for new clues, but to tell about the dangers that lie hidden in everyday normality”. And so, for four months, Radioimmaginaria met with Chiara’s friends, parents and experts, who all identified with this story to the point that they realised there could have been any teenager in Chiara’s place.
